Overview
Cate Nightingale, una joven madre viuda, vive pacíficamente en una pequeña población en Idaho, donde regenta un hostal con escasos visitantes. Cuenta con la ayuda de Calvin Harris, un enigmático personaje que arregla los desperfectos del edificio. Sin embargo, cuando un huésped del hostal desaparece misteriosamente, la apacible rutina del pueblo se altera sin remedio. La brutal visita de unos matones exigiendo las pertenencias de ese hombre aterra a Cate y le hace temer por la vida de sus hijos. Calvin aparece y espanta a los agresores, pero esto no será más que el comienzo de la pesadilla: los intrusos se organizan para aislar totalmente al pueblo y convertir a sus habitantes en asustados rehenes.
Ocultándose en la oscuridad de la noche, Cate y Calvin huirán al pueblo vecino para obtener ayuda, y durante ese viaje desesperado y lleno de peligros descubrirán que los une algo mucho más profundo e intenso que el miedo.
